Our Campaign of the month winner in September goes to Durham Book Festival with their Streetliner event advertising campaign in Durham.
Durham Book Festival was founded in 1980 and is now part of Durham County Council’s festival programme. Since 2011 it has been produced by New Writing North. For many years the festival was a well-kept secret within the regions cultural calendar but has grown significantly. With their event advertising campaign out on the roads of Durham, it wouldn’t be a secret for very long!
Durham Book Festival is one the country’s oldest literary festivals. Between the 5th and 14th of October is a variety of packed programmes for all ages across Durham city centre in historic venues. Inspiration and entertainment are showcased at the festival with a mix of authors attending.
In 2017 the festival reached their biggest audience yet, engaging with over 39,000 people! The Gordon Burn Prize takes place every year, becoming one of the UK’s most exciting literary prizes, honouring the late North East author and journalist Gordon Burn.

Their Event Advertising Campaign
Durham Book Festival took out their advertising campaign in October 2016 to promote their event that year and, ever since, our Account Manager Lorraine has worked closely with them. This year’s event advertising campaign for them was exposed across Durham as they took 10 Streetliner bus adverts out on Scarlet Band for a four-week duration. Their campaign consisted of mainly random routes with one specific route in County Durham, allowing a constant presence and a reminder to the community that the festival is back and not one to miss, just like their advert!
Streetliners are available in 10ft and 13ft and deliver the message at eye-level to motorists and pedestrians alike, perfect for event advertising as they allow you to cover a large geographical area, over a short period of time.
